I am writing to make you aware of an effort currently underway in the Iowa legislature to redirect all or a portion of the I-JOBS funding for DNR project(s) in Henry County.

Created during the 2009 legislative session, I-JOBS is an $830 million state-wide infrastructure investment designed to improve Iowa communities and strengthen the Iowa economy while producing thousands of jobs. At the Governor’s request, the Department of Natural Resources submitted a budget that includes $40 million dollars from I-JOBS for parks.

The Iowa DNR intends to spend $610,500 in your county to complete infrastructure repair or construction at Geode State Park. If the legislature is successful in diverting funds earmarked for the DNR’s project(s) in your county, this switch of funds may seriously reduce or eliminate critical construction jobs in your community.

My county, Dickinson, has a stake in this effort. Beginning in 2007 and continuing to date, local residents are working to raise funds to renovate and restore the shelter house at Mini-Wakan State Park. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, this building was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and listed by Preservation Iowa as one of Iowa’s most endangered properties in 2010. The DNR intends to dedicate $500,000 toward restoration and renovation at Mini-Wakan State Park.

Your help is needed to prevent the diversion of I-JOBS funding for the DNR project(s) slated for your county. On or before next Wednesday, March 17, 2010, telephone your senator at 515-281-3371 and your representative at 515-281-3221. Tell your legislators employment opportunities in your county will be increased when the 2009 I-JOBS funding to the Iowa DNR is allowed to flow as intended in the Iowa DNR’s plans. Ask your legislators to voice their opposition to diverting funds committed to the Iowa DNR projects in your county.

Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Joe Ulman, Chairman
Spirit Lake Protective Association’s Mini-Wakan Committee

Checking this out from the MP library. Opportunities abound.

One person (at least) who lost his job at Heatilator is whooping for joy. Now he can get on with his life! (Looking to God, of course.)

I am a retired Mech. Engineer, who worked in New Product Development for 45 years. I have 21 US Patents, some are in production and I am still receiving royalties on one. I am open to volunteering time to help new start-ups. Their may be many other retired professionals in town that would be willing to volunteer.

For instance, 3M has a internal-external group of volunteer retired that consults with projects in the Co.
