MOUNT PLEASANT IOWA — A $250,000 award granted by the Iowa Economic Department of Economic Development on Thursday should be good news for the city of Mount Pleasant Iowa.
The money goes to Biomedical Synergies Inc., of Wayzata, Minn., out of the Grow Iowa Values Financial Assistance Program.
The award should clear a hurdle for the company, which is strongly considering putting its headquarters in Mount Pleasant Iowa.
"We are appreciative of the Iowa Department of Economic Development and Biomedical Synergies," said Kiley Miller, executive vice president of the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance. "We need to clear a couple more hurdles. I am pretty optimistic this is going to happen."
If and when the final hurdles are crossed, Miller said the company will occupy an existing facility in Mount Pleasant Iowa and create a significant number of jobs.
Biomedical Synergies offers a patent-pending software solution, TRACS4Life, designed to help hospitals and surgical centers manage and track implantable tissues.
The company also offers a patent-pending consulting methodology that focuses on patient safety and risk reduction.
When an official announcement can made, Mount Pleasant will serve as the main operational center for Biomedical Synergies. It will be the host for the company's technology and also serve as a customer support center.
Miller said it has taken six months to reach this point and involved efforts by the city of Mount Pleasant, Henry County, the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance, the private sector and other organizations.
"I'm very confident this is a major advancement for the regional economy," Miller said.
